The power of X-Ray technology

As to why this should be, there’s no doubt that dental implants owe a lot to the availability of X-Ray technology, which lets the dentist see what’s happening in the mouth – and assess whether a jawbone is strong enough and healthy enough to accommodate a dental implant.

The implant involves sinking a miniature ‘stake’ quite deep into the jawbone, and an artificial tooth is then placed neatly – and permanently – on top of this stake. It's something like building a fence, in terms of the engineering principles behind the process.
 

What are the benefits of dental implants?

We would never disparage dentures, as they have been a staple of the dentist’s toolbox for many, many years. But there’s no doubt that dental implants can offer a range of additional benefits, including the following:
 

• They’re never going to slip. Anyone who’s worn dentures will be aware that they can slip out of place from time to time – usually at the most embarrassing of moments. That’s simply not going to happen with an implant, as it is even more ‘planted’ than your real teeth.
• They’re way more comfortable. Many of our patients tell us that their implants feel so natural that they very soon forget they're wearing anything other than ‘real teeth’.
• They’re more practical. You don’t have to take out your implant to clean it – as you do with dentures. You just brush and floss as normal and your implant will be just fine.
