With dental implant cost so low these days, there’s never been a better time to address that gap in your smile. Here’s the full story.

You probably know by now, if you're a regular reader of our blog, is that we’re huge telly fans. It probably comes with having a young family and not painting the town red so often these days.

And although we're fans of all the great new drama that comes to our screen regularly, one of our all-time favourites is the wonderful RTE programme, Reeling In The Years.

It provides an unbelievable window into the Ireland of yesterday, and even if the particular episode is only going back in time by twenty to thirty years, it seems to paint a picture of a time that we can barely imagine today. We love to snicker at the old-fashioned clothes, or those cars that we thought were the bees’ knees back in the day.

And one of the areas that’s most difficult for us to get our head around is the difference in dental health levels back in the seventies and eighties. Time and again, the Reeling In The Years screen is filled with images of people who have a smile that could most charitably be described as ‘in need of attention”.

Perhaps it was a lack of money in our economy at the time, or perhaps a lack of knowledge (prior to the Internet) as to what constituted best dental practice. But whatever the reason, our fathers’ and grandfathers’ smiles were nowhere near as bright as we take for granted today.

And back then, of course, if a tooth – or teeth – went missing, it was either completely ignored, or addressed in the form of dentures.

So what’s so different today?

Well, the big breakthrough in addressing a gap in the smile is the dental implant – also referred to as a tooth implant. The concept is simple – but brilliantly so. A miniature stake is inserted deep into the jawbone, and on top of this stake, your dentist fixes a replacement tooth.

The replacement tooth is locked on to the stake with a special form of dental cement that sets in minutes into a super-strong bond.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Well, there are quite a few. First of all, there’s the fact that they simply don’t move out of place – unlike with dentures. This means that you’re not running the risk of your teeth implants slipping while you're telling that brilliant joke at your boss’s Christmas party.

There’s also the fact that implants are much more comfortable than dentures. Because they’re fixed so firmly in place, they behave exactly the same as you rexisting teeth – so you can laugh or talk or eat as normal.

And here’s a benfit you might not have expected.

You might be expecting to pay big bucks for this technology, but teeth implants are very much within the reach of the average patient. And remember that the value of your dental implant cost has to be considered on the basis that it will last you for the rest of your life.

And remember too, that you can spread the tooth implant cost over three, six or nine months – thanks to our 0% Dental Finance Plan.
