Here’s what you need to know about the effective, affordable way to sort that damaged smile.

If you’ve read our blogs in the past, you’ll know that a recurring theme of ours is how modern dentistry has come up with some tremendous new treatments in recent years. Yet despite this, we still rely to a great extent on treatments that have been around for generations, and that are still sorting out dental problems with great success today.

Typical of this form of ‘tried and tested’ treatment is the tooth crown (also known as a dental crown). But no matter how old it may be, it is still one of the primary choices of dentists right around the world.

The reason for this has many aspects, but one of the primary ones is that it is a very versatile form of treatment. It is equally effective whether your tooth has been damaged (either through neglect or by accident) or is suffering from discolouration.

Of the two, discolouration is probably the more common reason for opting for crowns. The problem may arise through the passing of years, or may be a result of excessive red wine or tea drinking. And remember, too, that if you're a regular smoker, it’s pretty much inevitable that your teeth will discolour over time – yet another reason to give up the fags for good.

Up to relatively recent times, dental crowns would have been seen as a comparatively expensive form of treatment. Thankfully, however, those days are long gone. Today, the process is very streamlined in modern surgeries like MyDental, which means that the price has dropped accordingly.

And if it’s the case that you need multiple crowns, remember that there’s no need to pay for them all at once. Instead, you can choose to stagger your payments over three months, six months or nine months – simply by availing of our 0% Dental Finance Plan. It’s a great way of managing your money – without incurring a single cent in interest payments.

But with normal porcelain crowns costing as little as €350 a pop, there’s every chance that you may not need to use the payment plan. This is a surprisingly small sum to pay for such a successful and transformative form of treatment.

We carry out dental crown treatment pretty much every single day here at MyDental, and it's lovely to hear the comments of our patients as they leave the surgery with their new crowns in place. It totally transforms their smiles, and you can see a new level of confidence in their demeanour as they leave the surgery.

Apart from the aesthetic benefits that it provides, crowns are very successful from a functional point of view. Once you’ve had your crown fixed in place, you can eat pretty much any food you want to – safe in the knowledge that the crown will stand up to the challenge.

If you’re slightly worried about the quality of your smile at present and think that it could do with some serious improvement, then maybe you'd like to read up on this topic a little more.
