Orthodontic problems are almost a rite of passage these days – here’s why this is the case.

Of all the blogs we write here on the MyDental website, one of the topics that generates most feedback is the issue of orthodontic treatment. And it’s not hard to see why – it seems that more and more Irish teenagers end up having a spell wearing the dreaded train tracks.

And there’s a good reason for this. There have been huge changes in the type of teeth that we need over the past tens of thousands of years. At one stage, our ancestors would have been chewing on raw meat or roots, so a certain type of tooth and bone structure was required.

These days, we enjoy a diet that is generally cooked rather than raw, but evolution has been a tad slow in reacting to these changes, and the way a teenager’s mouth is now structured means that there’s a very high risk of either crooked teeth (from huge internal pressure) or simple overcrowding.

No longer a two-year sentence

Not so long ago, if a youngster was told that he’d need train tracks, he could rightfully assume that he’d be wearing the for up to two years – and maybe even longer in certain circumstances.

Today, however, the Quickbraces that we use here at MyDental means that you’ll only have to wear them for around six months. And trust us on this – when you’re young and lacking in self-confidence, those 18 months ‘reprieve’ feel like manna from heaven.

Bu that’s just the start of the benefits that the newer form of orthodontic braces offer

• They’re way more comfortable. The forces they exert are much more gentle and our patients often tell us that they forget they’re even wearing them after the first week or two have elapsed.

• They’re way more discreet than the older version of braces. You don’t stand out immediately as someone who’s wearing braces, and again, to a sensitive teenager, this is a really big deal.

• The next benefit is something you might not expect. You’re probably assuming that a new form of treatment like this must be very expensive. Not so – and here’s why. The Quickbraces system involves fewer visits to our surgery, which means that you pay for less of our time. It’s as simple as that.

A centre of excellence

Another piece of good news is that when you’re considering orthodontics Dublin is a true centre of excellence, and the quality of care you’ll get here in your own city is unrivalled anywhere else.

And if you're in the market for orthodontists Dublin has something else to offer. Here at MyDental, you can decide to opt for our 0% Finance Plan, which lets you spread the cost over a number of months (3, 6 or 9).

You’ll be treated with the highest standards of ethics
