No need to put up with a dodgy smile. It's time to act – no matter what age you are.

Every so often, a new trend becomes apparent in the world of dentistry. And if we were put on the spot as to what the trend of the moment is, we’d have to say that it's the number of adults who are having clear braces fitted.

Not so long ago, it was the preserve of adolescents, and it seemed to be a rite of passage for thousands of teenagers who were facing into a life with a crooked smile – unless action was taken.

These days, however, more and more adults are taking the plunge. Part of this may be down to the example that’s been shown by a number of prominent celebrities.

Nicholas Cage, for example, was spotted at the 2003 Writers Guild Awards wearing a set of silver braces on his lower gnashers. Cage was actually 39 at the time but explained that you're never too old to improve your smile. We tend to agree with him.

Gwen Stefani is another who showed us that braces are not the preserve of youngsters. And back in 1999, rather than conceal the fact that she was wearing them, she turned them, instead, into a form of fashion statement, setting off her uber-pink hair. She pointed out to her fans that this was the first thing she promised herself she’d do when she became wealthy. More power to her, we say!

And another star you wouldn’t associate with braces is Tom Cruise. Back in 2002, the then 40-year-old was seen at a celeb event wearing invisible brackets.

As well as taking a lead from celebs, there’s another big reason why adults are looking to braces these days. Not so long ago, you would have to wear your new braces for two years or more, which was a deal-breaker for a lot of people. These days, however, they work their magic in just six months, so more and more people are reckoning that they can put up with the appearance of braces for such a short period of time.

And another reason for turning to invisible braces in adulthood is the issue of affordability. Because you only need to spend six months attending your dentist, he can afford to charge significantly less for professional attendances. So the price you pay these days is way below what you probably expected.

And even if you think that they’re slightly out of your price range, why not opt for our 0% Dental Finance Plan? This means that you don’t have to shell out all at once for your treatment. Instead, you can opt to spread the cost over a number of months – three, six or nine.

So why not follow the lead of celebs like Tom Cruise and Nicholas Cage – and continue to invest in your appearance even though you're no longer in your teens. You’ll feel the benefits for the rest of your life, which represents great value for money.
