The fall and fall of dental implant cost.

Call me back

Home  /  Implants - Dental News  /  The fall and fall of dental implant cost.

There’s a new game in town when it comes to replacing missing teeth. Here’s what you need to know about teeth implants.

It’s funny how memories of childhood can suddenly assail us. Watching TV recently, there was an old black and white comedy movie which dated back to the 1950’s or thereabouts. It was pretty awful, but we watched it for the strangest of reasons. One of the characters in it had deliberately awful false teeth, and every so often, he would move tehm up and down to amuse some children who were with him.

So why did this strike a chord? Well very simply because a grand-uncle of ours did something very similar with us when we were very, very young. We chilren would gather around him and beg him to ‘perform’ with his false teeth.

These days, of course, such a performance would not be possible, because the more usual treatment for replacing missing teeth is teeth implants rather than dentures.

Tell me more about teeth implants.

Let’s suppose for a minute that you wanted to build a fence. You would first erect a series of stakes, and then use this as the skeleton which would support the fence.

Teeth implants use this self-same principle. Your dentist inserts a miniature stake or screw deep into the jawbone, and then the replacement tooth is fixed onto this. The tooth is fixed to the stake using a special form of dental cement which forms a very permanent bond.

The benefits of teeth implants

• First of all, a tooth implant cost is a fraction of what it used to be, so it's very much within the price range of the ordinary members of the public.

• Another big plus is the fact that teeth implants will never slip out of place (deliberately or otherwise), so you’ll never experience embarrassment from your teeth moving out of place.

• Dental implant cost can be spread over three months, six months or nine months by availing of our 0% Dental Finance Plan.

• Another huge benefit is comfort. They look and feel exactly like your normal teeth, so after the first week or two, you’ll simp;y forget you're even wearing one. And because your dentist files it to exactly match your original tooth, you can be confident that there will be no sensation of it ‘feeling wrong’ in your mouth.

The bottom line is that, although dentures are still available here in MyDental, the more modern answer to a missing tooth (or teeth) is to go down the implants route. And remember that this treatment will last you a lifetime, assuming you take care of your new implant by brushing and flossing as normal.

What about going abroad for treatment?

We’ve all seen those ads for so-called cheap implants and other dental work in various parts of Europe. Before going down that route, do your sums fully. Apart from the cost of treatment, you have to factor in the cost of flights and accommodation – along with subsistence costs while you're abroad. And what happens if there’s a problem afterwards? Do you have to travel back to the treatment provider?

If you're even vaguely considering such a route, we strongly advise that you check out this article from the Irish Dental Association – http://www.dentist.ie/latest-news/the-dangers-of-dental-tourism-.6556.html
