Root canal treatment cost is lower than ever.
Why do root canals have such a lousy reputation when the truth is so benign? Here’s the full story.
We watched a fascinating documentary recently on the topic of hypnotism. This wasn’t about so-called ‘stage hypnotism’ where susceptible candidates are made to embarrass themselves on stage – to the amusement of the audience.
Instead, the documentary focused on how hypnotism can replace an anaesthetic when it comes to some surgical procedures. We would have been sceptical except for the fact that we actually witnessed some patients being treated under hypnotism, and the surgeons performing the procedure were under no illusions as to how effective the whole process had been.
But here’s the thing that suddenly struck a discordant note with us. The hypnotist was talking about the various surgical procedures that would be suited to hypnotism – and he used the following words: “It can EVEN work for having a root canal”. We were disgusted. He was implying that root canals represented the very epitome of pain, something that we’ve heard mentioned time and again – usually by people who don't know what they’re talking about.
The fact of the matter is that root canals are a wonderful form of treatment that can salvage a tooth which is in danger of extraction. And yes – it takes somewhat longer than other procedures, but surely it's worthwhile if the end result is a saved tooth?
We underwent this procedure ourselves in the not-too-distant past, and we can assure you that there’s absolutely nothing to fear. The procedure was carried out over two separate visits to the dentist, and each of them took about an hour.
Dis we feel pain? Why would we? As with all significant dental procedures, we were completely anaesthetised, so whatever was going on in our mouth was absolutely painless.
Once the anaesthetic had worn off, the area around the root canal was a little tender, but some over-the-counter painkillers sorted this easily for the next day or two. And after that, it was as if we’d never been to the dentist – except for the fact that we now had a fully functioning tooth again.
What about cost?
Not too long ago, a root canal cost would have involved a fairly significant financial outlay. These days. However, the process has become much more streamlines, which means that we can afford to charge you significantly less.
The bottom line is that root canal treatment cost should not be a deal breaker any more. And remember that, when assessing the cost, you will hopefully have the use of your salvaged tooth for the rest of your life, so bear that in mind when doing your sums.
Would I be better off going abroad for treatment?
You might be tempted to consider going abroad for those so-called cheap dental procedures overseas. But when it comes to root canal treatment cost Ireland has a lot going for it.
Apart from great quality treatment, you don't have to shell out on flights, hotel costs and subsistence, and you’ll also enjoy a great quality after-sales service at home in Ireland.
