Got an orthodontics question? We’ve got the answers.
In just six months, you could have the perfect solution to crooked or overcrowded teeth. Here’s the full lowdown.
We paid a visit recently to one of Dublin’s better-known private hospitals for a meeting with a consultant about a small medical problem we’re experiencing right now. It’s minor in nature, but our G.P. still thought it worth seeing a specialist.
In the hospital in question, there is an entire wind given over to the office of the specialist consultants, and we were taken aback at the number of different specialisations which exist.
Each of them, of course, has their own very good reason to exist, and this is very definitely the case with orthodontics. While addressing the issue of crooked or overcrowded teeth might sound like a normal part of dentistry, this is very definitely not the case. Orthodontics is very definitely a discipline within dentistry that is like no other.
It has its own skillset, its own technologies, and its own set of miracles that it can deliver. And with advances in modern orthodontics, patients can have crooked or overcrowded teeth sorted in as little as six months.
This is a far cry from the bad old days, when it was in no way uncommon to have to wear ‘train tracks; for two years or more. This was particularly onerous when you were in your teens and very self-conscious about your appearance – but even for adults, it was not something which people looked forward to with any great joy.
What’s the difference with today’s orthodontic solutions?
Dentistry evolves by the day, and nowhere is this more evident than in the area of orthodontic treatment. There are a whole of benefits to be had from the form of braces we use here at MyDental. Among the most important of these are the following;
• You’ll be wearing them for 18 months less than with conventional systems, but they’re every bit as effective as their old-fashioned rivals.
• They're much more discreet than conventional train tracks. They’re smaller, narrower, and tend not to draw attention to you, which is great for your self-confidence.
• They’re much more comfortable than yesterday’s models, as they exert less force on your teeth and gums. Within a week or so, most of our patients forget they're even wearing them.
• Because they fit more neatly into your mouth, your speech is not affected, so that telltale lisp that used to accompany braces is not so evident.
Are they very expensive?
When we tell our patients about this new form of orthodontic treatment, they immediately expect it to be much more expensive, as the results and the benefits are so positive.
The opposite is the case, in fact. Why is this? Well simply because the patient spends less time in the dentist’s chair, so we can afford to charge them less for our professional attendance.
If you're in the market for orthodontics Dublin is an excellent place to seek treatment. This is particularly so here at MyDental, where we combine a truly friendly service with tremendous affordability, thanks to our 0% Dental Finance Plan which lets you spread the cost over three, six or nine months.
